Milan’s public transportation service is called ATM and it has 5 metro lines, 19 tram lines and many bus lines which all together provide the opportunity to move around the city. Thanks to the well connected and integrated transportation system in Milan, you can get around the city quite easily during your daily life. 

 

As the system includes trams, buses and metro, the tickets and passes are also valid for each transportation way. While a single ride ticket costs 2.0€ and can be used for up to 90 minutes, there are also unlimited daily passes which cost 7€ and 10 ticket carnets which coct 18€. Please note that all tickets should be stamped at the start of every journey and should be kept with you during the time of your journey as there are regular controls by the ATM officers. In addition, all tickets must be stamped when leaving the metro stations.

 

 In Milan, you can buy a “Biglietto” (ticket) at any metro station, as well as at any tabacchi (tobacco) store which you can easily identify by the “T” sign on the outside. Keep in mind that you can use your credit card or cash when purchasing your ticket at the metro station while you can only use cash if you purchase in one of the tobacco stores in Milan. Also, you can download the ATM app which is easy-to-use and use the application to purchase your tickets through your credit card. To use the application, all you have to do is register via your email and set a password. 

 

You also have the opportunity to obtain an ATM Magnetic Card which is a subscription card that has several options based on your frequency to use and your age. You may make an application at the Duomo Subway Station and you will need the followings:

1. ID/ Passport
2. Codice Fiscale
3. 2 Document sized pictures
4. University ID if you want to benefit from student discount

We would like to note here that, in case you want to benefit from a student public transportation card, the monthly price is 22€ and the yearly price is 200€.
